Re: VCSA 6.5 with HA & 2 PSCs - VUM Service Can't Start

Hello,

After investigation I think the issue must started from expired private certificates.

I rebooted both PSCs now I am getting the error below:

This is VCSA

A server error occurred.

[500] SSO error: com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.common.UnexpectedStatusCodeException: Unexpected status code: 404

Check the vSphere Web Client server logs for details.

This is PSCs

HTTP Status 400 – Bad Request

Type Status Report

Message An error occurred while sending an authentication request to the PSC Single Sign-On server - null

Description The server cannot or will not process the request due to something that is perceived to be a client error (e.g., malformed request syntax, invalid request message framing, or deceptive request routing).

After a quick search this issue is due certificate issue possibly. I am trying now to 8. Reset all Certificates but it looks like there is some issue with the MACHINE_SSL_CERT

I found a VMware article which suggests to delete and re-create the directory for the backup/VMware certs but didn't work. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/67660

My PSC01 has this directory with these files:

[ /var/tmp/vmware ]# ls

certool.cfg  cis-license  machine.cfg  MACHINE_SSL_CERT.cfg  root.cfg  vsphere-webclient.cfg

I am trying to find a way to by pass for now the SSO/PSCs just to be able to login on the VCSA. Also need to fix the issue with the PSCs by resetting the certificates or restore them by the certificate store/backup_store if possible.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Shared VM gone in workstation 16!

This decision is pure politically motivated. It aims to make life harder for users who have a need to run VM's besides their local desktop (for which I think the Workstation Player is sufficient enough). Well VMWare, let me tell you: users can be political too! In my carer I've talked quite a few customers into buying Workstation Pro. Of course this includes myself. My counterpart political decision is to stop all of that. Version 15 (and even older) is 'good enough' for many more years to come - I'll stick with that until for whatever reason technically no feasible anymore. And than I'll carefully evaluate any other option available.

Bye!

Hi!
Are there any news? Answers? Solutions? Ideas?
I have the Problem that I cannot create the Admin-Repository which point to a DFS Share - invalid URL. DNS, hosts all set up, Support Call is opened but no solutions so far.

Many hosting providers offer ‘Unlimited Bandwidth’, but it often ends with some certain terms and conditions as per company standard. Hosting Bandwidth means the amount of traffic can handle the website. So make sure that, go through the terms and conditions of the hosting provider.

I hope this information is beneficial to know what web hosting and how to find the best web hosting provider.

You also get better security when you get your own hosting plan. Cheap Shared Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, and cheap VPS Hosting Reviews and Coupon Codes - https://www.waikey.com/

Shared hosting is the most suitable option for beginners, small websites like personal blogs, simple websites as well as it is the most elementary form of web hosting available. VPS Hosting can be chosen when a client website starts growing (attracts bigger traffic). A virtual private-service mimics a dedicated server (your web host allocates a separate partition for you on the server) but within a shared hosting environment.

Sorry for late reply. I checked the attached log, it seems it is interrupted at line below, which the mksSandbox process is probably not started up normally.

ISBRendererComm: mksSandbox command-line: C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\x64\mksSandbox-debug.exe --logFile C:\VMWare\Manjaro\mksSandbox.log --pipeInfo \\.\pipe\vmware\mksSandbox\mksSandbox-52 f2 3b d9 af 4f 4b 55-4a 79 b7 ed 9d be 20 1f

I have few questions. Please help me to make it clear.

1) What's the result if you manually run the cmd above on windows host?

C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\x64\mksSandbox-debug.exe --logFile C:\VMWare\Manjaro\mksSandbox.log --pipeInfo \\.\pipe\vmware\mksSandbox\mksSandbox-52 f2 3b d9 af 4f 4b 55-4a 79 b7 ed 9d be 20 1f

2) You're saying the guest used to be working on WS 16.0, but stopped working suddenly after running few days ?

3) Is there mksSandbox dump file under %temp% folder?

4) What's your guest OS kernel version? Since we have a internal bug to power on linux guest when kernel version is 5.8.0-rc.

Thanks,

Yan

LUN does not show correct size after extend

Hi,

we are running cluster of 4 hosts, connected via FC to Lenovo Storage V3700 V2. We extended one of the LUNs from 16 to 20TB, but vCenter still shows 16TB size. When we go to a host - configure - storage devices, the correct size is shown (20TB), but Datastores shows 16TB. We found this article VMware Knowledge Base and upgraded the hosts to " 6.5.0, 15256549" (they were ESXi 6.5. Patch 01, build 5146846), but nothing changed. The current version of vSphere web client is "Version 6.5.0.32000 Build 15259038".

Anyone having same or similar issue?

Thanks in advance.

Attention VMware!

Please note that VMTN is not intended to be an official support forum - while some users are employees, most of those are helping in their own time in an unofficial capacity.

The majority of contributors are end-users, VMTN is a "community" forum.

Your best bet is to look for a 3rd party tool to extract the WiFi password from an existing device. Even after copying the profile in the UEM console won't reveal the password either.

Re: VM SCSI Controller in vSAN

$

I came across exact the same question and found no exact answer to that.

As GCCJay mentioned:

The PVSCSI Controller IS recommended for SAN environments

The PVSCSI Controller IS NOT recommended for DAS environments

So, what is vSAN? It seems to be a bunch of vSAN certified disks (optimally SAS or NVMe based), locally attached to an vSAN certified I/O controller inside a vSphere certified server, presenting a part of a distributed block-level object storage cluster. Correct me if I am wrong.

Assume a vSAN host with an I/O controller with a queue depth of 1024 and 4x SAS disks attached to it with a 256 queues wide SAS interface each. Those 4 disks would perfectly fit into the queue “bandwidth” of that I/O controller.

At the Virtual Machine level, there are 2 queues:

  • PVSCSI Adapter queue (Default: 254)
  • Per VMDK queue (Default: 64)

From my understanding the I/O chain would may looks like this:

Guest OS App (PVSCSI LUN) -> vSCSI (PVSCSI adapter) -> ESXi storage stack -> driver -> I/O controller -> disk

My first though was, that configure PVSCSI on all VMs could probably lead to an “oversubscription” of queues. Let’s assume 4 VMs with 4 vDisks and 1 PVSCSI adapter each, that would probably lead to a situation where you have nearly as much queues on the virtual layer as in the physical layer. If all these VMs would generate a high amount of I/O that could possibly lead to performance issue BUT… vSAN distributes the I/O over as much vSAN data nodes inside the cluster as needed and therefore it is unlikely that you can fill up these queues on one host so easily. Also, there is a caching tier for hot inflight I/O on each host and not every workload generates a static high amount of I/O.

Long story short, I don’t have an exact answer to the question but maybe we can discuss this? Or maybe there is a VMware guy around for some clarification

Kind regards,

MtheG
